Obituary of William Michael Blakeley

William Michael Blakeley Passed away January 1, 2007 at his residence in the Palo Alto Commons.� Bill, born in Lafayette, IN, October 10, 1936, spent his early professional years in New York City working for the City Controller's Office, but lived the majority of his life in the Bay area.� A graduate of the University of Chicago, Bill was for many years a small business owner and accountant in Gilroy, CA, but also worked for SETI Institute in Mountain View, CA and later in the Controller's office of Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.� Bill was an active volunteer in the Palo Alto Avenidas Senior Center and an active member for 26 years of Alcoholics Anonymous. Bill, an astute observer of people, maintained his early love for Chicago and New York but when he discovered the beauty and warmth of California, it became his home. He was devoted to the world of arts and letters, evidenced in his weekly reading of The New Yorker. Bill will be remembered as a gentle, literate, and deeply caring person, and he will be missed terribly by his family and all of the many friends and acquaintances he made over the years. He is survived by his sister Lou Ann Blakeley of Naples, FL; his cousins, Theodore C. Ricks of San Mateo, CA; Thomas M. Ricks of Havertown, PA; Michael J. Ricks of Great Falls, VA; Susan M. Austin of Alexandria, VA; Stephan A. Ricks of Columbus, OH; Alan E. Ricks of Canfield, OH; his former wife and friend, Dr. Audrey Hurley; and, his godson, Lukas Haynes of New York City.
