Michael P. Coughlin, 79, died on Thursday, February 25 in Mountain View, CA, as the result of an automobile accident.
Mike was born in Pittsfield, MA on October 29, 1941, the beloved youngest of eight children of Paul J. and Katherine (Starr) Coughlin. He was really smart and very funny. His boyhood was spent with his many friends playing sand-lot baseball and basketball at the Boys Club (where he won the dubious honor of “Most Improved” 2 years in a row).
He maintained life-long friendships with many of his classmates from Pittsfield High School, Class of 1959.
Mike graduated in 1963 from Yale University and then earned his MBA from Rutgers University. He worked for Price Waterhouse and Baldwin United Corporation in NYC before moving to Mountain View, California. He spent the remainder of his career in the hospitality industry.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many trips to California and Nevada golf venues with his friends.
He will be missed by his dear wife, Carmen Hughes Coughlin, whom he married August 30, 1997.
He is survived by his stepdaughters, Yvette Olguin (Byron Nobriga), Yvonne Heyl (Mark), and his grandsons, Tyler and Conner Heyl. Also mourning his loss are his brother, Thomas J. Coughlin (Linda Shedd) of Charlton City, MA and his sisters, Carolyn A. White (Albert, late) of Albany, NY, Mary K. O’Brien (Robert) of Lenox, MA and Paula C. Byrdy (Harold) of Lenox, MA as well as many loving nieces and nephews across the country.
Mike was predeceased by his parents and brothers and sisters-in-law, David J. Coughlin (Dolores) and James R. Coughlin (Marilyn) and his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne S. Bushey (George).
His passing is a profound loss for all of his family and friends.
