Obituary of Anthony Segura Ramos

Anthony Segura Ramos died peacefully on May 14, 2020.  He leaves behind his wife Frances, daughter Cathy Ross and son Steven (Denise) Ramos; brother-in-law John Boes; grandchildren Lauren Noon, David (Nadia) Ross, Rachael Ross, Katie (Andrew) Cummins, Ryan Ramos and Michele (PJ) Ramirez; and great grandchildren Henry Cummins and Sierra Ross.  Tony was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph (Theresa) and Bill (Madeline) Ramos, sisters Roni (Tom) Nelson and Fran Boes, and parents Joe and Dolores Ramos.

Tony was married for 70 years to his high school sweetheart, Frances Castello.  They raised their 3 children, Cathy, David (deceased), and Steven in Sunnyvale.  Later, Tony and Frances would move to Hollister and enjoyed being part of the Ridgemark Golf Course Community.

Tony often spoke of how smitten he was when he first laid eyes on Frances as she walked down the steps at Fremont High School.  They shared a love of Frank Sinatra and often showed off their smooth moves together on the dance floor.

Tony and his brother Bill owned the successful Rancho Bottle Shop for almost 30 years in Los Altos.  During football season, they would organize a bus to shuttle customers and friends to Kezar Stadium to watch the 49ers play.  He was a lifelong 49ers, Warriors, and SF Giants fan.  He faithfully supported his teams and could impress anyone with his knowledge of the games.

In his younger years, Tony served in the Army National Guard and was a competitive and talented golfer.  In 1974 the local newspaper sports section ran a headline which read “Ramos city golf champ.  In the largest field ever assembled, 148 golfers, Tony Ramos fired a low gross score of 70 at the eighth annual Chamber of Commerce sponsored city golf tournament at Sunnyvale municipal course.”  Later in life, you could often catch Tony driving his red golf cart on his way to meet his friends for a 7:00 am tee time.  Golfing was one of his true passions in life and he continued playing until the age of 90.

Above all, Tony loved his wife and his family.  At holiday dinners, he would often tear up while making toasts about how proud he was of his six grandchildren.  They will always remember him as their sentimental, caring and affectionate patriarch.

Tony’s family loved and admired him and will forever hold him close to their hearts.  Losing his son David was his greatest sadness and his family takes solace in knowing that they are now together in heaven.

Rest in Peace Tony, Dad, Papa

A special thanks to Tess and her sister Belinda for their compassionate care of Tony.
