Obituary of May H. Kelly

May Kelly, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Nov 8, 2019 from complications after suffering a stroke. She was born on May 1,1931 in Fredericksburg Texas to Cora and William Habenicht.

She earned her nursing degree from the Brackenridge School of Nursing in Austin Texas in 1952. While at Nursing School, May met Tom Kelly, a promising young accounting student at University of Texas.  Tom was a part time ambulance driver and met May at the hospital. Tom used the ambulance for their first date and captured her heart. May married Tom on June 28th, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas. Tom’s career took them to Diboll, Kilgore and Lufkin TX, Springfield IL, Denver and Colorado Springs, CO. May balanced nursing with homemaking and was the mother of 5 children. Tom and May remained partners in life and love for 57 years until Tom’s passing in 2010, after which May moved to Los Altos to be closer to family.

While living in Colorado Springs May was an avid supporter and board member of the Arthritis Foundation, a docent at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Since moving to Los Altos, May has been a member of Saint Nicholas Church and an active member of P.E.O.

Wonderfully outgoing and caring, May made everyone she met feel like family, always reaching out to make sure others felt safe and sound.
