Obituary of Molly Smith
Molly Smith was born in Grove City, PA to John J. and Elizabeth A. Mahannah (Voit) and resided in Warren, Ohio. Molly attended K-12 schools in Warren. She obtained a B. S. degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and did post graduate work at Catherine Gibbs in Boston.
In 1959, at age 23, Molly drove from Warren to San Francisco with 2 other girls, having selected a city that they had never visited to then seek a job. She landed her first job in the Bank of America headquarters. Molly’s first marriage (1962-1977) was to Frank Holsinger and they lived in Tiburon during which she became employed by the City of Belvedere and worked in various positions.
She was then selected as Finance Director for the City of Menlo Park and moved to Palo Alto. Later, she became Finance Director for the City of Milpitas, and then she was hired by The Villages in San Jose as Assistant General Manager and later became the General Manager.
On May 12, 1987, Molly married Wesley Dell Smith in Jamaica and they first resided in Fremont. Also in 1987, she was selected by the City of San Bruno as their Finance Director. They moved to Mountain View in 1988. For many years Molly was on the Board of Directors for the San Mateo Credit Union. After retiring from San Bruno in 1998, she became active with the alumni chapter of her college sorority, AXO, and was president for two years. She was a visitor services volunteer at Filoli and was the chairperson of the committee for two years. Throughout her life, she made many friends and they continued to keep in contact over the years.
Molly and Dell enjoyed many activities and travel, especially after retirement. The travel highlights were Thailand, two trips to Africa for wildlife viewing, Europe by canal, the Panama Canal, the Galapagos and Antarctica. There were also rail excursions in England, to France via the Chunnel, Scotland, Switzerland, South Africa and the Copper Canyon in Mexico. Molly became a baseball fan rooting for the Giants, attending many games. She saw every home post season and World Series game in 2010, '12 & '14.
Molly is survived by her husband Wesley Dell Smith, her stepson, Kevin Smith (Evelyn) and step granddaughters Alexis and Lauren. She also is survived by her stepdaughter from her first marriage, Joan (Holsinger) Sotomayor and step granddaughter Amy Shaunette. A private burial service will be held.
