Obituary of Martha McAllister Lloyd

Martha went to be with the Lord on February 28th, 2016. Martha was born December 2, 1935 in Anthony, Kansas to Anderson and Dollie McAllister. Until the age of 9, she lived on a 360 acre farm in Oklahoma which was obtained by family in the Oklahoma land rush in 1889. Martha kept herself busy on the farm playing with baby calves, horses, sheep, cats, and dogs; she loved the farm life. Martha left the farm in 1945, when family made their way to Sacramento, California then to Boulder Creek. Martha's father "Mac" took a job as caretaker at the YMCA camp in Boulder Creek and her mother Dollie became the cook in the camp kitchen. Martha's family settled in Cupertino, CA, an area known for its abundance of fruit trees: apricots, cherries and plums. Martha graduated from Fremont High School in Sunnyvale in 1953. She then attended San Jose State University where she graduated with a BA in Home Economics. Martha was very active in church and started piano lessons at an early age. Martha could sight read any piece of music you put in front of her, and continued to play piano and organ until the age of 79. Martha met Robert Lloyd, Jr., a handsome young sailor from South Carolina, at a USO dance hall. They married on July 27th 1957. Martha attended the First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale and in the early 70's became the church secretary, where she worked for over 30 years. Upon retiring as church secretary she continued to minister to the senior adults, planning events, lunches, and field trips. There was never a dull moment. Martha and Bob raised three wonderful children, Barb Lloyd (Dallas, TX), Tom Lloyd (San Jose, CA), and Joanie Deskins (Cupertino, CA). Martha developed Alzheimer's disease in 2009. Martha is survived by husband Robert Lloyd, Jr., Barb Lloyd and partner Janis Raley, Tom Lloyd and wife Lisa Lloyd, Joanie Deskins and husband Todd Deskins and Grandchildren: Darren Lloyd and wife Dawn Lloyd, Justin Lloyd, Brayden Deskins, Haley Deskins and Emma Deskins.
